Autobiographical Writing Celebration

We are just wrapping up our first writing unit of the year.  We start the year with an introduction unit to familiarize ourselves with the Writing Workshop procedures and the Writing Process (Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Conferring, Publishing).  First, we learned that what inspires writers most are the things that are near and dear to our hearts.  We each created an "Inspiration Heart" that is glued into our Writer's Notebooks.  We can refer to this heart all year whenever we need inspiration for our writing.

Then, we focused on the structure of a paragraph and wrote about something we are experts on - ourselves! All year, whenever we finish a unit of writing, we will have a Writing Celebration.  To celebrate the completion of our Autobiographical Paragraphs, we created self-portraits.

We started by using teamwork to trace our hands and feet.  Mrs. Fether even got in on the fun! :)

These self-portraits are especially fun because we are floating in space. We each personalized our portraits and they turned out great!  They should be hanging in the hallway soon so you can see the finished product in person!
