Classroom Economy

Our class, along with Mrs. Sutermaster's class, just finished our first Classroom Economy.  After earning credits during August and September, everyone was very excited to visit the 3rd Grade Bank to cash in paychecks for Maryland Moolah and then shop at the 3rd Grade Store. Here is a rundown of all of the economics fun we've had since the start of school:

First, Mrs. Sutermaster's class joined us during the first week of school for the 3rd Grade Mint.  We learned about where money comes from and how it gets into circulation.  Then, the students worked for prepare our Maryland Moolah for the 3rd Grade Bank.

During August and September, students earned as many credits as possible.  They could earn credits by turning in all of their homework each day, having parents sign assignment notebooks, doing classroom jobs, and being good citizens in our classroom community.  Students also tried to avoid debits, which they can receive after a warning if they are talking out of turn, not following directions, showing disrespect, etc.

At the end of October, we counted up all of the credits we earned.  Mrs. Fether wrote paychecks for everyone and each student had the opportunity to visit the 3rd grade bank.  Our wallets were filled with Maryland Moolah!

Finally, it was time to visit the 3rd grade store.  On this day, the classes go through two rotations.  At one, the students learn with Mrs. Fether about an economics concept from our 3rd Grade Social Studies standards. In Mrs. Sutermaster's room, we SHOP!  Some students went crazy and spent everything!  Others saw the big ticket items and decided to save some Moolah for next month's store. :)  You can see some of the great items we had to choose from below.  We are always happy and very appreciative to accept any donations you'd like to make to our 3rd Grade Store.  Thank you to those who have already donated!!
